They again met in the semi final, this time in 2000. Real Madrid won the first leg in Spain 2-0. Bayern put up a brave fight in the second leg and won 2-1 (above Scholl, Lizarazu and Effenberg celebrate Jancker’s opening goal) but it wasn’t enough. Madrid advanced and won lifted the trophy.
Their next semi final encounter came in 1987. Above Bayern goalkeeper Jean-Marie Pfaff stops a shot as Norbert Nachtweih, Roland Wohlfahrt and Klaus Augenthaler look on. The game finished 1-0 to Madrid but Bayern won the first leg in Munich 4-1 and thus moved on to the final, which they lost against Porto.
Bayern and Real Madrid had their first European encounter in 1976 in the semi final. After a 1-1 draw in Madrid Bayern won the second leg 2-0 in Munich thanks to two goals from Gerd Müller and advanced to the final.
